More than a project

In 2021 five actresses in Brazil shared their intimate lives with a writer and director. To their surprise, all of them had similar incidents of abuse, violence, betrayal and abandonment. They wanted their stories to be shared, they wanted other women to know they are not alone. So... Solidão Feminina was born.

The group decided documentary was not the way. But they didn't want to use the regular fictional-narrative plot either. Solidão Feminina is in between worlds. The stories are real, all lines are extracted from testimonies, weaved together as a monologue, curated to become poetry. The visual follows the same concept, their own bodies, fragmented, exposed. Once violated, now the attempt is to make them whole. Once trapped in trauma, now the attempt is to create beauty.  

The group organized, other people came to help and a shorter version of the film came into reality. In 2024 this version had its premiere on the Pasadena Film Festival and the feedback was incredibly positive. The audience was impressed by what they saw and reported they wanted to see more, so we believe it would be worthy to get back at it and shoot the whole film, going from 3 to possibly 12min. Although a heavy subject, the whole film has an arc that leads to hope and a new beginning. You can check the teaser for now, viewer discretion is advised.
